SOLAR POWERED SECURITY LIGHTS ARE PERFECT FOR SOME SECURITY LIGHTING NEEDS

Solar powered security lightsSolar powered security lights are becoming more popular as consumers discover that newer models are more than bright enough to provide sufficient security lighting.

Outdoor security lighting is considered a necessity by most homeowners. Depending on the property, this may mean only a light or two attached to the home itself or perhaps a more extensive lighting system that also covers the landscape. This could be attached to the house electrical grid (line voltage) and would need to be wired up and installed to code by an electrician. Or It could be a low voltage security illumination system, which is also wired up but simply plugs into an inverter attached to the house grid. Or it could be solar powered lighting.

Solar floodlights are not as bright as other products and if harsh, bright light is needed, they should not be considered. But they are ideal for providing security lighting in areas that are remote or not easily accessible to an electrical grid.

Solar lights draw minimal wattage but produce impressive brightness

There is a common misconception about the brightness of the light they emit. Consumers see a light specification of 5 watts and then move on, thinking that won’t do the trick. But wattage is not a measure of a light’s brightness – rather, the electrical draw required to keep it lit. A 100watt light bulb draws more electricity than a 60watt bulb. If comparing the same type, there is a relationship to brightness, but this doesn’t hold true when comparing different technologies.

Solar powered lights come with either halogen bulbs or LED (light emitting diode) bulbs. These things use up very little power – 3 to 5 watts, but when clustered in groups (within the same solar light) they can produce over 1200 lumens in brightness – better than a standard 20watt halogen bulb. Each model is different, but the solar security lighting systems available today really are bright enough to do the job.

Most solar powered models come with a cord attachment so the charging panel can be placed in direct sunlight while the light fixture itself is posted where it is needed. Solar lighting solutions are more convenient than other systems and are getting more popular as consumers embrace renewable energy resources.
