POOL LIGHTING SOLUTIONS
DESIGNED TO BEAUTIFY AS WELL AS PROVIDE SAFETY AND
SECURITY
Pool lighting has come a long way in
the last decade. For in ground pools, underwater lights
have always been required for security and safety. But
more and more, pool owners also realize that a pool is
also an architectural highlight and at night, can be
particularly beautiful! But providing underwater light has
always had issues.
Operating a pool is expensive and the traditional line
voltage system could not be called energy efficient lighting.
Not only that, but there has always been a safety issue in
putting high voltage lights underwater. They are robust, and
there are few examples of failure, however any water contact
with this type of voltage would be potentially fatal for a
swimmer.
Low voltage lighting systems have since been designed
which are much safer and radiate enough light for both beauty
and security. The drawback with this type of system is that it
requires a transformer and this makes it somewhat
expensive.
The latest technology is fiber optics. This allows the
actual light source and electricity to be located away from the
pool. The light is transmitted into the pool through plastic
fiber optic cables. Totally safe, this lighting system provides
sufficient illumination and is increasingly less expensive
(although initial outlay can still be significant).
For nighttime beauty, try low voltage or solar powered floating
pool lights
Increasingly, pool owners are also turning to floating
lights. Some floating pool lights radiate enough light for
security and completely illuminate a 20 by 30 foot pool. Most
operate on a nine-volt battery and are completely safe.
Floating pool lights are
also being used to beautify the nighttime pool scene and
come as accent lights in many colors. Resorts and cruise
ships have been doing this for years – transforming pools
into scenes of nighttime beauty as a backdrop for other
entertaining activities.
Solar powered floating pool lights are the latest rage in
pool accent lighting. They charge during the day and when put
in the water at night cast soft accents across the surface of
the water. Some change colors automatically, going through the
entire light spectrum!
Pool owners now have significant choice in lighting
solutions for their pools. A bit of research can lead to energy
efficiency, a high degree of lighting safety and security and a
beautiful nighttime pool scene everyone will notice!
