POND LIGHTING CAN CREATE AMAZING
SCENES IN YOUR NIGHTTIME LANDSCAPE
Pond lighting solutions have been popular in
Britain for years. This has traditionally been a European
feature, however having ponds as part of the outdoor
landscape has now really taken off in North America as
well. When installed, ponds often become the highlight of
any landscape design and can easily be
beautified by installing plants or even stocking with fish.
This is great during daylight hours, but ponds can also be
transformed into magnificent scenes at night.
Any landscape lighting design would very
carefully consider water features such as a pond or fountain
and work towards highlighting this as a focal point of the
nightscape. Lighting systems are now available in a variety
of colors and styles that will create whatever effect you
are looking for.
Most pond lights are
considered low voltage landscape lighting and come with a
transformer, bulbs, different colored lenses and a cable for
connection to an electrical source. Depending on the effect or
feature that needs highlighting, pond lights can be placed
under water illuminating fish, or perhaps pointed upward to
provide up light accentuating a water fall, or fountain. (These
specific lights must be designed for submersed
operation).
Other pond light styles are
designed with lights placed at the edges of ponds, casting
light across the water or highlighting the foliage along the
border.
Floating pond lights are an
excellent option
Another option is floating
pond lights. Also used in pool
lighting, these come in a variety of styles;
everything from globe lights to lily pad lights or light
fixtures in the shape of frogs, fish etc. These can be low
voltage or solar powered. The advantage with solar powered
lights is that they require no hookup to
anything, require no maintenance at all, will last for years
and cost nothing to operate. The effects these lights
produce are truly beautiful and amazing and they are
relatively inexpensive.
Pond lights do make an
absolutely beautiful scene. There are many types to choose from
and there is usually a huge selection in any landscape
specialty store. Browsing online is also an increasingly
popular way to shop for these products.
